Bringing in your records

Three ways in, what it checks first, and a free sales sheet if you are starting from nothing.

Three ways in

  • Paste. Copy rows from a spreadsheet, a chat or a note and paste them in.
  • Spreadsheet. Upload a file. Evelyst reads .csv, .tsv, .txt, .xlsx and .xls.
  • Photo. Take a photo of a receipt or a page of your notebook. It reads the photo and fills in the entry for you to look over.

You can also type a sentence, such as what you sold and for how much, and it turns the sentence into an entry. Nothing is saved until you press Add it.

Nothing is added until you have seen it

Before anything goes into your book, Evelyst shows you what it found and checks it first. It looks for:

  • rows that are already in your book, or the same rows pasted twice
  • an amount that looks mistyped
  • look-alike names for the same item
  • dates that don’t make sense

If a date could be read two ways, it asks whether the month or the day comes first. You decide what gets added.

Undo

Changed your mind? You can undo an import for 7 days.

Columns it doesn’t recognise

If your columns are named your own way, Evelyst asks which column is the date, which is the amount, and so on. It asks once and remembers, so the next file just works.

A free sales sheet

If you are starting from nothing, this sheet is already set out the way Evelyst reads it, with no matching step: date, product, category, amount. Fill it in, then upload it.

Three example rows are in it, in the style of a hardware shop. Replace them with your own.

Tell it about your business once

If something about your business explains your numbers, tell Evelyst once and it keeps it in mind. Before text goes to the AI, the names of staff Evelyst knows are replaced with their role.

Next: Asking good questions.
